Israel-Palestine War: FG Calls For Ceasefire, Peaceful Resolution

The Nigerian government urged both parties to create room for humanitarian considerations, calling for dialogue.

Rising number of deaths and casualties

At least 313 Palestinians have been killed, including 20 children, and nearly 2,000 wounded as a result of Israeli airstrikes inGazasince Saturday, thePalestinian authority health ministrysaid on Sunday morning. Seven people were also killed by Israeli army fire in theWest Bank, including a child, it added.

Media in Israel, citing rescue service officials, said at least 300 Israelis were killed, including 26 soldiers, and more than 1,800 wounded. An update on Israeli figures was expected on Sunday.

In a statement on Saturday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, said the escalation between both countries would result in an unending cycle of pain and suffering for the civilian population, advising that both parties should exercise restraint and prioritise the safety of civilians.

He urged both parties to create room for humanitarian considerations, calling for dialogue.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, therefore, calls on both sides to exercise restraint, prioritise the safety of civilians and give room for humanitarian considerations. We are therefore calling for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue,” the statement read.
