2026 World Cup: Poor Performing Super Eagles Force to a draw by Resilient Lesotho
The much-anticipated 2026 World Cup Qualification match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Crocodiles of Lesotho ended in a disappointing draw. Despite being the favorites to win the game, the Super Eagles struggled to impose themselves on the resilient Lesotho team.
The Nigerian team started the game brightly, dominating possession and creating several chances. However, they failed to convert their opportunities, and frustration started to set in. As the game progressed, the Crocodiles grew in confidence and started to create chances of their own.
In the second half, the Super Eagles made some substitutions to try and turn the game in their favor, but it was to no avail. Lesotho continued to defend resolutely and even had a few chances to win the game.
Lesotho opened scoring at the 56th minutes goal from Mkwanazi, Bereng lead the assist. Lesotho failed to defend their goal, leading to a defensive error which Ajayi took advantage of it to score at the 67th minutes. Assist from Oheanacho.
The draw leaves Nigeria in a precarious position in their World Cup Qualification group, with tough matches against South Africa still to come. The Super Eagles will need to improve their performance if they hope to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
