Super Eagles Opens AFCON 2023 Competition With A Draw
Super Eagles of Nigeria has again failed to secure a win in their first game in the AFCON 2023. The Super Eagles got several chances put fail to convert their chances.
Nigeria who have won the competition 3 times, in 1980, 1994 and 2013. Has appeared in the finals for the 7th times.
Earlier Victor Boniface was ruled out of the competition due to injury, both Victor Osimhen and Alex Iwobi, who where benched in a friendly game against Guinea made the starting 11 of peseiro lineup.
The Super Eagles made the first attempt in the game, by Iwobi but it was stopped by the Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Jesus Owono.
Ivan Edu storm the Super Eagles by surprise, calmly curved the ball into the goal post. Stanley Nwabali could do nothing only to see how the ball passed him.
Super Eagles bounced back immediately, Osimhen with a towering header to draw level for Nigeria.
The Super Eagles made a change on the goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali replaces Francis Uzoho.
The match took place at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
Equatorial Guinea finished 2nd on their group with 14pts, there only defeat is against Tunisia.
