Mendes Scores Late, Put Cape Verde into The Quaterfinals

The blue sharks continued their impressive journey in the AFCON 2023, after beating the lions of Mauritanian to progress to the quarterfinals. Ryan Isaac Mendes broke the deadlock late minutes into the second half. Cape Verde will play either Senegal or Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals.

Cape Verde had more possessions and more goals on target at the end of the first half, but failed to convert any of their chances.

Cape Verde won 2 of their group stage games and drew 1 against Egypt. Cape Verde has only conceded three goals and scored 8 goals.

Cape Verde continued to brilliant performance with a total of 14 shots on target but the Mauritanian goalkeeper Babacar Niasse proved to be unstoppable.

Blue Sharks broke the deadlock on the 88th minute thanks to Ryan Isaac Mendes. The goal came from the penalty spot.
