Rivers Elders Kick Against Impeachment Threat Against Gov Fubara

A member of the Rivers Elders’ Council, Anabs Sara-Igbe, has stated that the 27 lawmakers lack the legitimacy to take any action against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as they lost their seats by defecting from the PDP to the APC. Mr Sara-Igbe made this known in a statement, adding that the lawsuit challenging the legitimacy of the 27 lawmakers is pending before the Court of Appeal.

The Rivers State House of Assembly had threatened to resume impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, with Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, citing alleged violations of state laws and selective implementation of the peace agreement. Mr. Amaewhule advised the Governor to stop such actions and accused him of refusing to fund the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.
