NFF President Visits Injured Super Eagles in Europe

AFCON2023 Super Eagles Beat Host Cote DIvoire To Boost AFCON Credibility

Recently, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau embarked on a trip to Europe to visit some of the Super Eagles players who are currently recuperating from injuries. This visit comes in preparation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for June.

During his trip, Gusau met with William Troost-Ekong, the Super Eagles assistant captain, in Greece. Troost-Ekong, who was awarded the Player of the Tournament at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), played through the pain barrier during the tournament in Ivory Coast and had to undergo surgery upon his return to Europe. The NFF President discussed the importance of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with him.

Gusau also visited Moses Simon in France. Simon, a forward for Nantes FC, suffered a fractured fibula during an international friendly against Mali, which forced him out of the rest of the 2023/24 season. The NFF President expressed his support for Simon’s recovery and encouraged him to remain strong during this period.

In addition, Gusau visited Zaidu Sanusi in Portugal. Sanusi, who plays for FC Porto, sustained an injury during a game just a few days after the AFCON 2023 finals, which required surgery. The NFF President shared his thoughts on the importance of Sanusi’s recovery for the national team’s future matches.

This series of visits underscores the NFF’s commitment to the welfare of its players and demonstrates the importance of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers for the team. The Super Eagles are set to face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic’s Cheetahs in back-to-back qualifiers in June.
