4 Royals Were Given New Titles by King Charles Yesterday—But Prince Harry Wasn’t One of Them

Kate Middleton,Prince William,Queen Camillaand theDuchess of Gloucester(who is the wife of the lateQueen Elizabeth’s cousin the Duke of Gloucester) were all given brand-new titles on April 23 (which was alsoPrince Louis’s 6th birthday) byKing Charleshimself. But the75-year-old monarch’s youngest son,Prince Harry, didn’t receive a new role from his dad.
It seems that the royal family had a big day of honors and titles bestowed upon them by King Charles. Four senior family members received new roles, but it looks like Prince Harry wasn’t part of this royal round-up. Kate Middleton was given a historic new title, while Prince William, Queen Camilla, and others were also recognized for their contributions.
Kate Middleton was appointed as a Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honour, a significant honor in the history of the British royal family, as she’s the first member to ever hold this title. This award recognizes her for her work in the arts and her service to the Crown.
Prince William was named the Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, a title that his father, King Charles, also held during his time as Prince of Wales. Queen Camilla was appointed a Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. These honors were established to recognize exceptional service in the military or civil service and outstanding contributions to society, both civilian and military.
It’s worth noting that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their senior royal roles in 2020, which might explain why they weren’t part of this latest round of royal titles. Despite the absence of Prince Harry from this particular event, the royal family continues to evolve and recognize the contributions of its members in various ways.
According to Hello! Magazine, His Majesty granted new titles to the senior members of the British royal family. And being that the Duke of Sussex had stepped down as a senior member of the royal family in January 2020, that could be a reason why a new honorary role wasn’t bestowed upon the 39-year-old spare.
Prince William was also named the new Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. As stated on theofficial royal website, the Most Honourable Order of the Bath was established by King George I in 1725. However, it is believed that the tradition dates back as early as the eighth century.
Per the website, the title is given to those who have served in the military or civil service for exemplary service. Before the Prince of Wales obtained the position, previous Grand Masters included his father, King Charles.
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla was given the role of Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by her husband. In contrast, the Duchess of Gloucester was named the new Royal Lady Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
