Finidi George has been officially unveiled as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team. This announcement was made by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday, April 29, 2024. The appointment comes in the wake of the team’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they finished as runners-up under the guidance of José Peseiro. Following Peseiro’s departure, George, who had been serving as his assistant, took over the team on an interim basis before being officially appointed to the position.

Finidi George, a former Super Eagles winger himself, is renowned for his achievements as a player, including winning gold, silver, and bronze medals at various AFCON tournaments and representing Nigeria at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup finals. He was part of the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ that won the 1994 AFCON tournament in Tunisia and was a key figure in Nigeria’s debut at the FIFA World Cup finals in the USA in the same year.
