Sanusi was reinstated as the Emir of Kano four years after he was deposed
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the 14th and 16th Emir of Kano, has been officially reinstated to his position as the Emir of Kano four years after his deposition. This significant event occurred following the signing of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law by Governor Abba Yusuf. The new law effectively dissolves the emirate councils established by the previous administration and restores the single Emirate System in the state.
Sanusi’s reinstatement was announced on Thursday, May 23, 2024, after the Kano State House of Assembly passed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024. This legislative action was taken to reverse the earlier division of the Kano Emirate into five parts, a move that was made by the previous administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in December 2019.
The decision to reinstate Sanusi was supported by the kingmakers and was seen as a move to restore the historical and traditional structure of the Kano Emirate. The governor’s action was widely reported across various media platforms, including social media and news outlets, with many expressing their support and welcoming Sanusi back to his role as the Emir of Kano.
On Friday, May 24, 2024, Sanusi officially received his appointment letter from Kano State Government.
