Farida’s Tragic Fate: Woman Found Inside 16 Foot Python

On June 6, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in Kalempang village, South Sulawesi province, Indonesia. Farida, a 45-year-old mother of four, was found dead inside a massive python that measured around five meters (16 feet) long. The shocking discovery was made by Farida’s husband, Noni, and local residents after she failed to return home from her local market the previous night.
The search for Farida began when Noni raised the alarm after she did not return home that evening. A search party was launched, and they eventually came across the python with a visibly enlarged belly. The python was killed, and upon dissection, Farida’s body was found inside.
This incident is a chilling reminder of the dangers that humans can face in areas where large pythons are present. While such incidents are rare, they are not unheard of in Indonesia, where several people have lost their lives to python attacks in recent years. In a similar incident last year in Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district, an eight-meter python fatally strangled and consumed a local farmer. In 2018, another woman met a similar fate inside a seven-meter python in Southeast Sulawesi’s Muna town.
The dense tropical forests and extensive palm oil plantations in Indonesia sometimes bring humans into deadly proximity with large pythons, highlighting the precarious coexistence between humans and wildlife in the region.
