Rangers Awarded 3 Points 3 Goals Against Enyimba

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken decisive action following the abandoned match between Rangers and Enyimba. The NPFL awarded three points and three goals to Rangers after Enyimba walked out of the game in stoppage time, protesting a penalty awarded to the hosts. This decision comes in response to Enyimba’s breach of several NPFL rules, including the failure to ensure proper conduct of players, officials, and supporters, disruption of a live broadcast, throwing objects and encroachment onto the field, and refusal to continue the match in protest against the penalty decision.

In addition to awarding points and goals to Rangers, the NPFL has fined Enyimba a total of N10 million for their actions. The league has also ordered Enyimba to identify and produce for further investigation and appropriate sanctions, other players and officials complicit in the disruptive conducts that led to the discontinuation of the game.

Furthermore, three Enyimba players, Eze Ekwutoziam (Jersey No.6), Chibuike Nwaiwu (Jersey No.27), and Akanni Elijah (Jersey No.10), have been identified and may face possible bans. The NPFL has given Enyimba 48 hours to appeal the decision.

With this development, Rangers remain on course to win the 2023/24 season NPFL title, topping the standings with 64 points from 35 games. The league’s decision has significant implications for the title race, with the upcoming Oriental Derby between Enugu Rangers and Enyimba taking on even greater significance.
