Popular Nigerian skit maker, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus or Mr. Funny, recently experienced a distressing event when his father was kidnapped. The incident occurred late in the evening of July 9, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to reports, Mr. Ejekwu was abducted by armed men on his way back home. A fierce gunfight ensued between the kidnappers and local security officers known as Ospac. Tragically, one Ospac officer lost his life in the exchange, while another person was critically injured by a stray bullet.

Following his father’s release, Sabinus took to social media to express his relief and gratitude. He shared a cryptic message on his Instagram page, thanking God for his father’s safe return. In a humorous twist, he wondered if the kidnappers might have been laughing at his skits while holding his father captive.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in the southern part of the country. Kidnapping for ransom has become a lucrative business for criminals, with high-profile individuals and their families often targeted.

Sabinus, who has gained popularity through his humorous skits and appearances in Nollywood movies, joins a growing list of celebrities who have experienced the trauma of having a family member abducted. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for improved security measures and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding loved ones.

As the nation grapples with this issue, the hope is that law enforcement agencies will intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and ensure the safety of all citizens. Meanwhile, Sabinus and his family can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that his father is back home safe and sound.
