In a significant gesture towards the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has approved a cash gift of N100,000 for each of the 4,277 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps members passing out in Lagos. This announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of the NYSC Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps members at the Lagos NYSC Camp.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also revealed plans to invest N5 billion in the construction of a new permanent NYSC Orientation Camp in Lagos. This move is aimed at providing a more conducive environment for future corps members undergoing their mandatory one-year national service.

In addition to the cash gift and the new camp construction, Governor Sanwo-Olu has also offered automatic jobs in the Lagos civil service to 100 outstanding Corps members at the end of their service year. This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to encourage and reward exceptional performance among the youth corps members.

The Governor’s actions have been well-received by the corps members and the general public, as they demonstrate a commitment to supporting the youth and investing in their future. The cash gift is expected to provide some financial relief to the corps members as they transition out of the NYSC program and into the next phase of their lives.

This development follows a similar announcement by Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, who declared a bonus of N200,000 for each corps member serving in the state during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members on July 2, 2024.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s initiative is a significant step towards empowering and uplifting the youth, and it is hoped that other states will follow suit in providing similar support to their corps members.
