Aston Villa have signed Amadou Onana as new midfielder from Everton
Aston Villa have officially completed the signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in a deal worth £50 million. The 22-year-old Belgian international has signed a long-term contract with the Birmingham-based club.
Onana joined Everton from Lille in 2022 and made 72 appearances for the Toffees, scoring four goals. He was a key player for the club, helping them to avoid relegation last season. He also played every available minute during Belgium’s Euro 2024 campaign.
The midfielder becomes Unai Emery’s third midfield signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Ross Barkley and Enzo Barrenechea from Luton Town and Juventus respectively. Onana’s arrival will help to fill the void left by the departure of Douglas Luiz to Juventus earlier this summer.
Aston Villa finished fourth in the Premier League last season, securing Champions League qualification for the first time in over 40 years. Onana’s arrival will help to bolster their squad as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign since the 1982-83 season.
The deal includes a sell-on clause and add-ons, while Onana has signed a long-term contract with the club. His former club Lille are entitled to 20% of the profit made on the £30 million fee they sold him for in 2022.
Onana’s arrival is a significant coup for Aston Villa, with the midfielder having been linked with a number of top clubs this summer. His physicality, athleticism, height, and technical ability make him a valuable addition to Unai Emery’s squad.
