Substandard imported fuel damaging vehicles in Nigeria Says Dangote

Dangote Slams 2023 Naira Devaluation As Biggest Mess

The Nigerian House of Representatives has recently set up a committee to investigate the quality of diesel fuel being sold at filling stations across the country. This investigation comes in response to allegations that imported fuel with high sulfur content is damaging vehicles and engines.

Dangote Industries, led by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has come forward to defend the quality of their diesel, claiming it is 80% superior to the imported stuff. They have also refuted claims of producing substandard petroleum products, citing lab tests that show their diesel contains only 87.6 ppm of sulfur.

The committee, headed by Ikenga Ugochinyere, will conduct laboratory investigations at various refineries, marketer and importer facilities, as well as regulatory agency labs to test the quality of the products being sold. They will also visit petrol stations nationwide to collect samples for further analysis.

Nigeria’s Fuel Quality Under Scrutiny: A Battle Between Dangote and Imported Products

The investigation aims to address several issues, including the alleged importation of contaminated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), disruption in distribution, and favouritism in the pro forma invoice regime. The committee will also probe the possible influx of contaminated products into the country and the allegation of non-domestication of profits realised from crude marketing sales in local banks.

Dangote’s stand against imported fuel has intensified, with the company urging the House of Representatives to launch an investigation into the quality of diesel and petrol being sold at filling stations across the country. This move has raised concerns about the potential impact of substandard fuel on vehicles, machinery, and the environment.

The investigation is expected to shed light on the quality of fuel being sold in Nigeria and determine the best course of action to ensure that only high-quality products are available to consumers. As the investigation unfolds, Nigerians eagerly await the results, hoping for a resolution that will benefit the country and its people.
