Rain Forces Postponement Of Skateboarding Event At Paris Olympics

The first full day of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics was disrupted by heavy rain, leading to the postponement of the men’s street skateboarding event. Organizers announced that due to adverse overnight weather conditions, the skateboarding competition scheduled for July 27th would be rescheduled to Monday, July 29th.

The decision to postpone was made following a meeting with all relevant organizers on Saturday morning. The schedule on the new date will remain the same, with the men’s street preliminaries from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and the men’s street final from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Rain has been a recurring theme at the start of the Games, with showers and downpours impacting the opening ceremony on the River Seine the previous night. The skateboarding event was set to take place at the outdoor venue of La Concorde Urban Park in Paris, making it particularly vulnerable to the inclement weather.

With the rescheduling, the number of gold medals up for grabs on the first full day of competition was reduced from 14 to 13. Organizers and athletes will be hoping for better weather conditions on Monday to finally kick off the skateboarding action.
