NYSC Members Won’t Receive 70,000 as New Allowance, Says NYSC Management
In a recent clarification, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked the rumors circulating about an increase in the monthly allowance for corps members to 70,000. The NYSC management has confirmed that there is no directive from the relevant authority to start the payment of a 70,000 minimum wage to corps members or to upgrade their accounts.
The rumors had sparked excitement among corps members who were looking forward to a significant increase in their monthly allowance. However, the NYSC management has put the rumors to rest, stating that there is no truth to the reports.
The clarification comes after a series of tweets and online posts claiming that corps members’ bank accounts were being upgraded to accommodate the new 70,000 minimum wage. However, the NYSC management has categorically denied these reports, stating that they are misleading and have no basis in fact.
In a statement signed by Eddy Megwa, Director, Information and Public Relations, the NYSC said: “No directive has been given to start payment of N70,000 minimum wage to Corp Members. No need to upgrade accounts yet.”
The statement also urged corps members and the general public to disregard the rumors and to rely on official communications from the NYSC management for accurate information.
The NYSC is a one-year mandatory service for Nigerian graduates below the age of 30. The program aims to foster national unity and integration by deploying graduates to serve in states other than their state of origin.
As the rumors of the allowance increase have been put to rest, corps members are advised to focus on their duties and responsibilities during the service year. The NYSC management continues to work towards improving the welfare of corps members and ensuring that they have a fulfilling and rewarding service experience.
