Benjamin Mendy, a former Manchester City defender, has initiated legal action against the club in an employment tribunal, claiming “unauthorized deductions from wages.” This lawsuit stems from the period when Mendy was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021, leading to his suspension by Manchester City. Despite being found not guilty of these charges in subsequent trials, Mendy was not paid by the club from September 2021 until his contract ended in June 2023. He is seeking the return of wages he believes he is owed up until the end of his contract.

The case is set to be heard in court over two days starting on October 14, 2024. This legal action follows Mendy’s acquittal on all charges related to rape and sexual assault, highlighting his claim for loss of earnings during his suspension by Manchester City, despite the eventual clearing of his name in court.
