Abuja, Nigeria – Banks and schools across Nigeria have resumed operations today, October 2, 2024, following the federal government’s declaration of Tuesday, October 1, as a public holiday.

The public holiday was commemorated to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, celebrating the country’s freedom from British colonial rule in 1960.

“All financial institutions, schools, and government offices were closed on Tuesday to observe the Independence Day holiday,” said a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education.

Normal Business Resumes

With the holiday now over, banks, schools, and other institutions have reopened for normal business.

“Banks are operating as usual, and customers can access our services without any disruptions,” said a spokesperson for the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Similarly, schools have resumed classes, and academic activities are proceeding as scheduled.

“Schools reopened today, and we’re expecting all students to report to their respective classes,” said a spokesperson for the Nigerian Union of Teachers.
