NNPC Ltd Delivers Port Harcourt Refinery…As Plant Begins Truck Out Of Products

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has achieved a significant milestone by delivering the Port Harcourt Refinery, which has begun trucking out petroleum products. This development marks the commencement of crude oil processing from the plant and the delivery of petroleum products into the market.

A New Era of Energy Independence

According to the NNPC, trucks began loading petroleum products, including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol, Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) or diesel, and Household Kerosene (HHK) or Kerosene, on Tuesday. The Group CEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, described the commencement of the loadout activities as a monumental achievement for Nigeria, signifying a new era of energy independence and economic growth for the country.

“This is a significant milestone in our journey to becoming a net exporter of petroleum products,” said Mr. Kyari. “We are proud of this achievement, and we are committed to sustaining the refinery’s operations and rescuing the Warri and Kaduna refineries.”

Rehabilitation Project

The rehabilitation project, which is an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation & Commissioning (EPCIC) project, aimed at restoring the refinery to full functionality and renewal. The project achieved over 16 million man-hours with zero Loss Time Injury (LTI).

The project was executed by Tecnimont SpA, an Italian-based Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, in collaboration with the NNPC’s in-house engineers and other local contractors.

Impact on the Economy

This development is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, particularly in the energy sector. The NNPC has expressed its commitment to sustaining the refinery’s operations and rescuing the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

“The commencement of the loadout activities at the Port Harcourt Refinery is a testament to our commitment to delivering value to the Nigerian people,” said Mr. Kyari. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our refineries operate at optimal levels, and that our country becomes a net exporter of petroleum products.”

Conclusion

The delivery of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the commencement of the loadout activities mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey to becoming a net exporter of petroleum products. The NNPC’s commitment to sustaining the refinery’s operations and rescuing the Warri and Kaduna refineries is a testament to the company’s dedication to delivering value to the Nigerian people. As the country continues to navigate the complexities of the global energy market, the NNPC’s efforts to revamp the nation’s refineries are a step in the right direction.
