Fubara Directs HLGAs to Takeover 23 LGAs Pending Fresh Election

GOVERNOR FUBARA RECEIVES JUDICIAL COMMISSION REPORT ON OCTOBER 7 VIOLENCE, VOWS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST CULPRITS

In a move aimed at maintaining order and ensuring continuity of government services, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to take immediate control of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

The Governor’s directive comes as the tenure of the current Local Government Area Chairmen has expired. The situation in Rivers State had become fluid, with youths taking over the council areas and demanding the appointment of Caretaker Chairmen.

Fubara’s decision is seen as an effort to uphold the constitution and maintain law and order in the state. The Governor has assured the people of Rivers State that his administration will continue to provide leadership and direction, ensuring the delivery of essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

The HLGAs have been tasked with overseeing the day-to-day administration of the LGAs, pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). This move is expected to provide stability and continuity in the governance of the LGAs.

The Governor’s directive has been welcomed by stakeholders, who see it as a necessary step to prevent a vacuum in governance. The people of Rivers State are eagerly awaiting the conduct of fresh elections, which will provide them with the opportunity to elect new leaders for their LGAs.

In the meantime, the HLGAs will work closely with the Governor and other stakeholders to ensure that the LGAs continue to function effectively. The Governor has assured the people of Rivers State that his administration will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition and the continued delivery of essential services.

As the people of Rivers State look forward to the conduct of fresh elections, they can take comfort in the knowledge that their Governor is taking proactive steps to maintain order and ensure continuity in governance. The directive by Governor Fubara is a clear demonstration of his commitment to the welfare and well-being of the people of Rivers State.
