The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a slight adjustment to the commencement date of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The examination, initially slated to begin on Friday, April 25, 2025, will now start on Thursday, April 24, 2025. This one-day shift, according to JAMB, was necessitated to accommodate essential commitments by the Board and its partner agencies.

In a statement released by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the Board clarified that the rescheduling aims to ensure a seamless examination process while maintaining its commitment to fairness and efficiency. The UTME, a critical gateway for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, is expected to see millions of applicants vying for limited spaces in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

Printing of Examination Notification Slips

JAMB has also provided an update on the printing of Examination Notification Slips, a vital document for candidates participating in the 2025 UTME. Candidates can begin printing their slips starting from Saturday, April 19, 2025. The process is straightforward and can be completed via JAMB’s official portal, www.jamb.gov.ng. Candidates are required to log in using their registration number and navigate to the “2025 UTME Slip Printing” option to access and download their slips.

The Examination Notification Slip contains essential details, including the candidate’s examination date, time, venue, and specific instructions for the test day. JAMB has urged candidates to print their slips as early as possible to avoid last-minute technical issues or delays. The Board emphasized the importance of this document, noting that candidates will not be allowed to sit for the examination without presenting a valid slip.

Pre-Examination Guidelines for Candidates

To ensure a hitch-free examination experience, JAMB has advised candidates to take proactive steps in preparing for the UTME. One key recommendation is for candidates to visit their assigned examination centres one or two days before their scheduled test date. This visit allows candidates to familiarize themselves with the location of the centre, assess travel logistics, and address any potential challenges, such as transportation or navigation difficulties.

JAMB has also reassured candidates that no one will be assigned to an examination centre outside their chosen examination town. This policy is designed to reduce logistical burdens on candidates and ensure that the examination process is accessible and convenient. Candidates are encouraged to adhere strictly to the instructions provided on their notification slips, including arrival times and prohibited items, to avoid disqualification or other penalties.

JAMB’s Commitment to a Smooth Process

The rescheduling of the UTME commencement date underscores JAMB’s commitment to delivering a well-organized and efficient examination process. The Board has invested in robust technological infrastructure to support the computer-based testing (CBT) format of the UTME, which has become the standard for its examinations. Additionally, JAMB continues to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, educational institutions, and CBT centre operators, to ensure the integrity and credibility of the examination.

The Board has also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice. Candidates are warned against engaging in any form of cheating, including impersonation, use of unauthorized materials, or collusion with others. JAMB has implemented advanced monitoring systems to detect and penalize such infractions, with consequences ranging from result cancellation to legal action.

Looking Ahead

As the 2025 UTME approaches, JAMB has called on candidates to remain focused and adequately prepare for the examination. The UTME covers four subjects, with Use of English being compulsory for all candidates, alongside three other subjects relevant to their chosen course of study. Candidates are advised to utilize JAMB’s approved syllabi and past question resources to guide their preparation.

The announcement of the new commencement date has been met with optimism, as it reflects JAMB’s proactive approach to addressing potential challenges. Candidates, parents, and guardians are encouraged to stay updated with official communications from JAMB through its website, social media platforms, and accredited channels to avoid falling victim to misinformation or fraudulent schemes.

With the 2025 UTME set to kick off on April 24, JAMB remains steadfast in its mission to provide a credible and equitable platform for Nigerian students to pursue their higher education aspirations. Candidates are urged to take advantage of the early slip printing window and adhere to all guidelines to ensure a successful examination experience.
