Breaking News : INEC office in Imo State attacked
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has confirmed that its office in Imo State was attacked by suspected vigilantes.
Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) is the electoral commission of Nigeria. It was established in 1990 by the Babangida administration and has been headed by a Chairman since then. INEC’s mandate is to conduct elections, oversee political parties and their campaigns, manage voter registration and conduct referendums.
The agency also provides assistance to other government ministries or agencies on election-related issues such as polling station management or voter education at local level during elections
The hooded individuals were seen at the entrance of the INEC office in Owerri, Imo State.
They also had masks on their faces to hide their identities from anyone who saw them.
The materials used in this attack that led to the destruction of the INEC office include petrol cans, bottles filled with kerosene and other inflammable liquids which were thrown at its walls.
The attackers allegedly set ablaze three vehicles belonging to INEC officials parked near their offices before fleeing on motorcycles with their accomplices into unknown lands.
However, he reportedly told them that he would need the material for re-ordering of election in some units where elections had not held due to logistics problems faced by the INEC officials during the March 9 governorship and state assembly elections in Imo State.

The police are investigating the matter but no arrests have been made as yet.
He said that they are still waiting for more information from their investigation team who were at the scene before releasing details on what happened.
As you may know INEC chairman has responded to the incident and are still finding more reports about the activities of the attackers.
INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu has earlier announced that collection of Permanent Voters Card Collection will begin on the 10th of December 2022.
Mahmood as said the attack on INEC office in IMO State will not stop the 2023 General Election.
