Why Gov Wike would have been the best presidential candidate – Governor Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, on Friday, said the Governor of Rivers State Nyesone Wike would have been the best candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.

According to him: “Nyesone is a defender of democracy and sacrificed a lot to ensure that Nigeria got to where she is today.”

In his address at the convocation ceremony of Ajayi Crowther University Oyo, Governor Makinde said Mr Wike is a defender of democracy who would have ensured that Nigeria got to the Promised Land.

He said: “Mr Wike believed in democracy and fought for it with all his might. He would have been one of our best presidents ever if he had won.”

Governor Makinde added: “Nyesone Wike was an idealist who sacrificed everything just because he believed in democracy.”

I am sure that if Wike was the Presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Party, Nigerians would have produced one of their best presidents ever in 2023. He is a man that believed so much in democracy and he sacrificed so much to ensure that we got to where we are today.

Wike has been very clear about his position on corruption, good governance and transparency in government. For instance, he has always maintained that there should be no conflict between the executive and judiciary powers as well as ensuring that constitutional provisions are respected by all parties involved in electoral processes.

He also believes strongly in meritocracy where everyone who works hard gets equal opportunities regardless of their race or gender (or religion).

“He is always ready to stand firm against anyone who wanted to truncate any stage of our democracy. He is bold and courageous; he spoke his mind without fear or favour and stood his ground whenever he felt that what was right was not being done,” Mr Makinde said.

You see, Wike is a man who believes so much in democracy and he sacrificed so much to ensure that we got to where we are today.

He would have ensured Nigeria got to the Promised Land.
