United States vs. Panama Highlights | Gold Cup

Canada Defeats Panama To Reach The Concacaf National League Final Png

TEAM USA’s Gold Cup journey has come to an end after Panama beat USMNT as the penalty kick shootout went into extra rounds.

In the first half of extra time, Anderson scored for Panama, before Ferreira pulled it back for USA to equalize just one minute before the half was over.

For the first time since 2015, the United States will not be in the Gold Cup final as they fall on a penalty shootout to Panama after a 1-1 draw.

Forced to play through extra-time and a penalty shootout for the second consecutive time in just three days, tired legs took over as the game dragged on. Jesus Ferreira’s dramatic 105th minute goal equalized, cancelling out Ian Anderson’s go-ahead goal, but it wasn’t quite enough to get them through.

Utilizing a backup roster after the starters served their national team duty through the Nations League a few weeks prior, interim head coach BJ Callaghan saw his side put forth another sloppy performance. They got away with a sub-par showing in the quarterfinals against Canada, as Matt Turner bailed them out in the penalty shootout, but this time they would not escape.

In the penalty shootout, Matt Turner made one save on Christian Martinez, but Jesus Ferreira and Christian Roldan both saw their efforts stopped by Orlando Mosquera to see Panama through.

With the victory, Panama reached the final for the first time since 2005, and have a shot at winning the CONCACAF tournament for the first time in history.

However, neither team could score an additional goal at the end of extra time – forcing them to battle it out in a penalty kick shootout.

In the first round of penalty kicks, USA and Panama both scored four – however, then in the first kick of the extra round, USA missed an opportunity while Panama shot past Matt Turner, securing their spot in the final.
