Nigerian Celebrities: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
The Nigerian celebrity have a large impact in the entertainment industry
One of the things that is really trending in Nigeria these days is entertainment, says creative director Obinna Okerekeocha. Inflation in the current economy presents a difficult life reality for many.
This has made entertainment a much-needed haven for millions of people across the country.
The main factor that makes Nigeria one of the fastest growing countries in entertainment consumption income is technology. Digital communications manager Oyinda Olukanni said it made streaming movies and music more accessible as a form of entertainment for Nigerians.
Onishi wrote at the time: “Since the late 1990s, Nigerian cinema has found a place in the cities, towns and villages of English-speaking Africa, while Hollywood and Bollywood have offered Mumbai-like films. Despite low production costs, With a budget of just $15,000, Nigerian films have become hugely popular, with stories, themes and faces familiar to other Africans. It’s now a $45 million-a-year industry by conservative estimates.”
Celebrities have a large impact on nigerian culture.
Now, there’s nothing out of place to travel to other countries and have conversations with people whose assessments of Nigeria are largely based on what they’ve seen in movies, especially in other African countries. Just as Hollywood and Bollywood films color the lens through which many people see America and India, Nollywood has influenced how people see Nigeria. Still, most of Nigeria’s cultural influence through film is limited to Africa.
“Rooted in West Africa, between Nigeria and Ghana, Afrobeats has become a global sensation, with Afrobeat stars topping and selling out on the biggest stages in Europe and the US. This genre of music is so popular that Nigerians really Strive to buy and download this music on various music streaming platforms, including digital music,” Okerekeocha said.
Stories, culture and talent are three of Nigeria’s most valuable assets and have been for years. From the moment Nigerians realize they can turn culture into stories and develop into world-class talent, a huge door of opportunity opens.
